Loneliness and Mood

Abstract Loneliness is commonly conceived of as a topic under the purview psychology. Empirical research on loneliness utilizes definition psychology essentially subjective, i.e. first-personal mental property an individual can have. As property, subjects have, it were, privileged access to their state being lonely. Rehearsing some well-known arguments from later Wittgenstein, I argue that – contrary unargued assumption present in several academic engagements not subjective sense whether or person lonely does all cases hinge person’s states. This becomes apparent when considering alienation self-knowledge (Moran 2001). Using Heidegger’s notion being-in-the-world and being-with such point towards merely feeling, but categorically different privation fundamental mode with others.
